Diary: On guillotines, heat presses and big dreams
Every Friday we share everything ‘behind the scenes’ – how far we’ve come, where we’ve gone wrong and what makes us smile:
💻 Our website has grown!
We’ve rewritten almost everything, simplified it, and we’re adding a new feature: a newsletter. Lately, we’ve often been asked where people can find more news about what we’re up to, and although we post relatively frequently on Facebook and LinkedIn, we decided it was time to have content that lasts longer and has a home of its own. The new website will be ready next week!
📦 The Packaging Thriller
About the Napkins! If you follow us, you’ll know we have a campaign on INDIEGOGO for this project. For those who’ve missed it: these are napkins designed to spark conversation or laughter in various settings. Their main aim is eventually to provide employment for disadvantaged young people. We’ve been trying to package them for a while now. We bought a large batch of packaging and thought we’d somehow manage to get on top of it. Well, no😊 If we’d carried on with this size of packaging, which needs sealing with a special heat press in three places and then cutting with a guillotine (which we don’t have), we’d have managed to pack the Lafetki slowly and laboriously, but the result would have been ugly and slapdash! 😃So, in the end, we ordered the correct size of packaging and are keeping our fingers crossed that it works out.🤞
🚀 Our campaign on INDIEGOGO is live, and we’d be delighted if you could support us here.
🌿 The lessons not found in textbooks
Our team has united around the mission of Different Minds: to provide employment for vulnerable young people – those with developmental difficulties and those growing up without parents. There are many paths: advocacy, changing laws, or partnerships with employers. We want to do it all, but the key to success is having one main goal. We decided that we would learn the most by setting up a social enterprise. If we build a working model with Lafetskite, we’ll be much better prepared to tackle the other big goals afterwards! 💪❤️
If you have any advice for us or just want to wish us luck with the new packaging, drop us a line in the comments! 🙂
